Window rebates in Ontario (2026): what's available and what qualifies
The main window rebate in Ontario right now is the Home Renovation Savings Program, delivered by Enbridge Gas and Save on Energy. It covers complete ENERGY STAR® certified replacement windows and doors, installed by a professional contractor after a home energy assessment, and only alongside at least one other energy upgrade. Replacing only the glass doesn't qualify, and window repair or restoration isn't covered.
Federal window grants and loans are closed. In Toronto, the City's Home Energy Loan Program lists window and door replacements. If your home is a designated heritage property, your municipality's heritage grant may help pay to repair and restore original windows.
Window Restoration Experts (WRE) doesn't run or administer any of these programs. We checked each official program page on November 3, 2026. Rules and deadlines change, so always check the official page before you plan around a rebate.

Home Renovation Savings Program: what windows need to qualify
- Assessment first. Book a home energy assessment with a registered energy advisor before any work starts. Work done before that assessment isn't eligible.
- ENERGY STAR® certified models. Replace at least three window openings, or one door, skylight or sliding door, with ENERGY STAR certified models. Keep the labels on until the follow-up assessment.
- At least one other upgrade. Windows and doors together count as one upgrade, and the program needs at least two. So windows have to be paired with another eligible upgrade, such as insulation.
- A professional installer. The windows must be installed by a professional contractor.
- Follow-up assessment. After the work, a follow-up assessment with the same energy advisor confirms it. The program sets deadlines for this step, so check the current dates before you start.
- Your home and heating. The home has to be an eligible type, such as a detached, semi-detached or row house (duplexes, triplexes and multi-unit buildings aren't eligible), with an eligible heating fuel.

Does glass-only replacement or window restoration qualify?
- Glass only: no. The program's rules say replacements of only the glass, the sash or a door without a frame are not eligible.
- A complete new window fitted into the old frame: can count. A complete new window with its own frame, installed into the existing frame (a retrofit), can qualify if it meets the other rules.
- Repair and restoration: not covered. The program only covers replacement with certified models.
- Toronto's HELP loan: lists window and door replacements. Its page doesn't say whether glass-only or repair work qualifies, so ask the program before you rely on it.
- Heritage homes are the exception. Heritage grants can help pay to repair and restore original windows on designated properties.
Heritage homes: grants for repairing original windows
If your home is designated under the Ontario Heritage Act, your municipality may help pay to conserve it, including its original windows. These programs fund heritage conservation, not energy upgrades.
- Toronto: the Heritage Grant Program funds repair of existing original windows and doors, and replacement only where the originals are missing or can't be repaired. City of Toronto Heritage Grant Program
- Mississauga: the Designated Heritage Property Grant supports conservation of heritage features, including original wood windows. City of Mississauga heritage properties
- Oakville: the Heritage Grant Program covers repairs to historic windows and doors. Town of Oakville Heritage Grant Program
- Burlington: the Heritage Grant Program supports conservation work on designated properties. City of Burlington heritage programs
- Brampton: the Designated Heritage Property Incentive Grant helps with the preservation, maintenance and restoration of designated properties. City of Brampton heritage
These programs generally require approval before any work starts, and work started before approval can disqualify you. Routine maintenance, such as repairing a broken window, usually isn't covered. Intake dates differ by municipality, so check the program page. Elsewhere, ask your municipality's heritage planning staff whether a grant exists.
We restore wood windows, including rot repair, reglazing, refinishing and weatherstripping, and we give written quotes after an assessment. See wood window restoration.
Should a rebate change whether you restore or replace?
Not on its own. A rebate doesn't change whether a window needs replacing. If a frame is sound, restoring the window may still be the better plan for it, even though restoration doesn't qualify for the program. If a frame has failed and you're replacing anyway, check whether the program fits your whole project before you order anything, and don't start work until the energy assessment is done.
We check every window first and tell you which ones need replacing and which can be restored. See restore or replace? A decision guide and what drives window repair and replacement costs.
Which companies help with window rebates?
Rebates are paid by the programs, not by contractors, and no contractor can promise you one. Window Restoration Experts doesn't administer any rebate program. What we do: assess each window, tell you which ones actually need replacing, and give you a written quote.
If you plan to apply for a rebate, check the program's window requirements before you sign any quote, and ask the contractor to confirm in writing that the windows quoted are ENERGY STAR® certified. If you already have a whole-house quote, see our second opinion page.
Book an assessment
Our diagnostic assessment checks seven points on each window: glass, frame, hardware, weather seals, exterior perimeter seal, interior perimeter seal and installation. There's no charge for the assessment.

Yes, for the Home Renovation Savings Program. Book the assessment with a registered energy advisor before any work starts. Work done before it isn't eligible.
Is the Canada Greener Homes Grant still available?
No. The Canada Greener Homes Grant is closed, and the Canada Greener Homes Loan is closed to new applicants.
Which companies help with window rebates in Ontario?

Are there window programs for income-qualified households?
The Enbridge Home Winterproofing Program and Save on Energy's Energy Affordability Program include insulation and draft-proofing, not windows. In Mississauga and Brampton, the Energy Retrofit Assistance pilot can include select windows in some cases for eligible households.
