What is Exterior Caulking?

Exterior caulking is the process of sealing joints, seams, and gaps around windows, doors, vents, and other exterior surfaces of your home or building. It acts as a first line of defence against water intrusion, drafts, and pests. Over time, caulking can crack, shrink, or peel due to exposure to the elements, leading to potential damage and energy loss. Our team provides professional removal and reapplication services to restore your home’s protection and improve its energy efficiency.

Benefits of Proper Exterior Sealing

At Window Restoration Experts, we believe that caulking is more than just a finishing touch. It's a vital part of protecting your property. Proper exterior sealing defends your home from moisture, drafts, and temperature changes while also improving its overall appearance. Our caulking services are tailored to ensure long-lasting performance and peace of mind:

  • Waterproof protection: Keep water out of the joint between the frame and the wall, which is where rot and structural damage start.

  • Energy efficiency: Close the gaps around the frame that let conditioned air escape. Fewer drafts, and a steadier temperature near the window.

  • Enhanced Curb Appeal: Fresh, clean caulking lines give your home a polished, well-maintained look from the outside.

  • Caulking is not weatherstripping: caulk seals a fixed joint, such as frame to wall. Weatherstripping seals a moving joint, such as sash to frame. Sealing the wrong one is why drafts come back.

How We Get The Job Done

Tell us what you’re noticing

Tell us where you are seeing the problem: gaps opening at the frame, staining on the interior trim, drafts you can feel, sealant that has cracked or pulled away. Photos help. We start with the symptom, not a price.

The diagnostic assessment

We inspect the perimeter joint on every elevation, inside and out, and check what the sealant is actually doing. Failed caulk is often a symptom rather than the cause, so we look at flashing, frame movement and the wall behind before we recommend resealing. If you already know what you need, we can price it on the call. If you don’t, the diagnostic assessment is $350 plus HST, credited in full against the work.

REMOVAL & SURFACE PREP

Before applying new caulking, we remove any damaged or failing sealant. The surface is then cleaned and prepped to ensure the new application adheres properly. This step is crucial for long-term durability and a clean finish.

APPLICATION SEALANT

We apply premium exterior-grade caulking that is UV- and weather-resistant. Our technicians use smooth, uniform lines to match your home’s aesthetic while providing a tight, waterproof seal. We carefully colour-match the sealant to your exterior finishes wherever possible.

FINAL WALKTHROUGH

Once the job is complete, we do a full walkaround with you to review the work. We ensure you're satisfied with the finish, and we provide care tips to maintain your new caulking for years to come.

When Should You Re-Caulk?

If you notice drafts near windows, water stains inside, visible cracks in the existing sealant, or bugs getting in, those are key signs it's time for professional caulking. Regular maintenance every 5–10 years, depending on exposure and material, is recommended to maintain a strong barrier against the elements.
